The original website for the Canton of Basel-Landschaft was created in 1997 and since going online has grown to about 67,000 HTML pages. In the course of time the content was depicted in different ways, so there was no longer a uniform visual appearance. A new website was designed to give the presence cohesiveness. At the same time, there had to be a guarantee that the existing content could be migrated and easily managed at a later date.
CS2 utilised the TYPO3 content management system for the new presence and developed an interface that imported the content of the old website directly into the new web presence. On the one hand, this encompassed the actual information such as copy and PDFs, and on the other, the move made sure that thousands of links and diverse service functions would continue to function properly on the new website. The automated migration saved the canton important resources as the transition of the content was accomplished in only three days. The modular structure of the new website also enables easy to handle future expansions.
The website was executed with the TYPO3 enterprise content management system. Content and design are separated at all levels throughout so that the editors are able to quickly and efficiently update the site. Thanks to a “rewrite engine”, all of the migrated links point to the correct pages.
